Restoration Projects at Local Railway Shrine
Receive Significant Funding Boost from Atlas Copco

February 3rd, 2014

The Northern Ontario Railroad Museum and Heritage Centre is pleased to announce a new partnership with Atlas Copco that will result in the restoration of two very significant pieces of rolling stock currently on display in Prescott Park.

Atlas Copco has provided $15,000.00 in funding to assist with the restoration of the museum's Hot Copper Car and Slag Pot Car. Anne Marie Grossi, Communications and Brand Manager for Atlas Copco, stated that "Atlas Copco Canada is deeply committed to the preservation and celebration of our nation’s history. Atlas Copco’s own history is fundamentally connected to rail transportation. So it is our honour to work with the Northern Ontario Railroad Museum and Heritage Centre, and we applaud its endeavours to preserve the heritage of the lumber, mining and railroading industries in the Sudbury region. In support of their efforts to restore the slag pot car and hot metal car, it is our pleasure to contribute funding for this project. "

Prior to its arrival at NORMHC in 2002, the Slag Pot Car was previously on display at the Big Nickel Mine. The Hot Cooper Car was donated to the museum by Vale in 2011 and was used to transport molten copper from the smelter to the refinery.

"We are pleased to have the support of Atlas Copco on such a meaningful project. The pieces are incredibly unique with regards to the history of local mining operations and once restored, will enhance our ability to educate visitors about our past" said Cody Cacciotti, Operations Manager at the museum.

The restoration is scheduled to begin during the spring of 2014 and it is anticipated that the work will be completed by the fall of 2016.
